GEORG WOLFGANG KNORR

Georg Wolfgang Knorr was born in1705 in Nuremberg, a town associated with the tradition which came to be known as the Northern Renaissance. Knorr's engravings were used to accompany the treatise of Scheuchzer entitled 'Physica Sacra'. This project apparently imbued Knorr with an interest in science and Knorr himself subsequently published some scientific and artistic work. Our colour reproductions do justice to the delicate treatment with which Knorr's birds and butterflies were executed and the careful precision evident in his shells and starfish.
