NIGEL CLADINGBOEL

Nigel Cladingböel, M.A. R.C.A., was born in East Anglia in 1952. He studied at Colchester College of Art from 1970-72, at Brighton College of Art 1972-75 and the Royal College of Art from 1975-78.

He has exhibited in England and France, at the Cadogan Gallery, Cork Street Fine Art, New Grafton Gallery, Smith's Gallery, Mercury Gallery, Moreton Street Gallery and Le Salon de Pouliguen, Brittany. His first one-man show was in the spring of 1985 at Gallery Grise in Paris, followed by two shows at the Clarendon Gallery.

Much of his work is inspired by the houses of the towns and villages of southern France. The paintings of windows, doors and weathered stucco walls evoke the tranquility of hot summer afternoons when deserted streets and half-closed shutters take on an air of mystery.
