BATTY LANGLEY 1696-1751 ref: 76HC
Batty Langley was the son of a gardener, and became a professional landscape gardener. He was fascinated by Gothic architecture, particularly with reference to follies and decorative garden structures, and he organised a school to train carpenters in the skills required to create such buildings. With his brother, Thomas, Batty Langley published a series of practical works on matters pertaining to architecture.
