Simon Schynvoet was born at La Haye in 1653, and was a famous collector, artist, engraver and poet. His brother was Jacob Schynvoet, a renowned Dutch engraver, who came to London in 1700 and engraved many beautiful plates depicting country scenes, birds-eye views of country houses (in a style resembling that of John Kip) and decorative architectural buildings. Together, the brothers produced a set of pleasingly symmetrical and formal garden designs, drawn and designed by Simon Schynvoet and engraved by Jacob Schynvoet.
